Manchester data centre
Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals

Project context
Planning permission was granted in 2020 to convert two existing warehouses into data centres and other ancillary works. Momentum supported the developer on changes to the existing internal layout of the unit for data centre usage. The application proposed amendments to a unit of the data centre, to include changes to the existing internal layout of the unit for data centre usage.
Our work
Momentum provided design support to accommodate the introduction of a mezzanine floor structure, office space, large data halls and associated plant. The external service yard will be used to accommodate large external plant items. Momentum provided a Transport Assessment Addendum and Travel Plan to support the application, approved in 2024.
Client outcomes
Momentum provided guidance on the layout and logistics of potential site layouts, using vehicle swept path analysis to ensure that vehicles of the required sizes can access the various units within the site to enable efficient operations.
Slough data centre
Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals

Project context
Momentum supported on plans to turn a former paint factory in Slough, UK, into a data centre. The developer acquired the site in 2022 to demolish a number of existing buildings to prepare the site for a new data centre campus.
Our work
Our work involved developing a bespoke trip generation for the site given the unique properties of a data centre, and tailoring the car park numbers based on the forecasted number of vehicle trips by staff and visitors to the site. This aimed to ensure that there was enough parking spaces at the site to accommodate the expected numbers of staff and visitors.
Client outcomes
Momentum has also provided guidance on the layout and logistics of potential site layouts, using vehicle swept path analysis, to ensure that vehicles of the required sizes can access the various units within the site to enable efficient operations.

Construction Logistics

“Our expertise continues to help the construction industry achieve practical efficiencies on construction sites, whilst reducing the impact on our streets through the provision of design solutions, informed site layouts and planning support.”
Construction impact on our roads is part and parcel of new development and thriving economies. Momentum works with contractors and local authorities to optimise construction phasing and site extents, whilst minimising the impacts of construction on the general public.
We work collaboratively with all parties, and draw upon our skills in engineering, planning and analytics. Our engineers design Chapter 8 compliant traffic management schemes, provide access design services and construction support, whilst our planners ensure policy compliance, develop construction management and logistics plans, which supported by our analysts who generate model impacts for pedestrian and vehicle networks both locally and network wide.
