Momentum Transport strengthens presence in Scotland with new appointment

Momentum Transport Consultancy, the leading integrated consultancy, has appointed Anna McRobbie as senior consultant within its new Scotland team.

McRobbie – who has significant experience in working on sustainable and active travel schemes in Scotland and, more recently, on low traffic neighbourhood schemes for the City of Edinburgh – joins Momentum associate Mailys Garden in the company’s Scotland office, based in Edinburgh.

Anna McRobbie said: “It’s an exciting time to be working in transport consultancy in Scotland, with our national emissions reduction target of becoming net zero by 2045. The recent publication of Scotland’s fourth ‘National Planning Framework Position Statement’ and ‘Draft Infrastructure Investment Plan for Scotland 2021-22 to 2025-26’ both identify core strategic themes to meet this goal and will rely heavily on good transport planning if we are to enable a transition to environmental sustainability and building resilient and sustainable places.”

Roy McGowan, managing director at Momentum said: “We’re excited to welcome Anna into our brand-new Scotland team. Her experience working on complex schemes perfectly positions us to build on our current work in Scotland, as well as working with local architects, developers and planners on the many opportunities that are emerging in the context of the need for more sustainable transport strategies.

“The transport sector is the biggest contributor of carbon emissions in the UK. While emissions from energy supply have fallen by 60% since 1990, emissions from transport have so far fallen by just 2%. There is understandable concern that this challenging progress with transport will translate to a failure to meet net zero ambitions. But we’re optimistic that transport strategies – which make the best use of available land, encourage the use of public and active transport and support the resilience of urban spaces through progressive initiatives such as micromobility, urban logistics consolidation and ‘first & last mile’ strategies – can unlock a huge potential for both our public and private sector clients in Scotland and across the UK.”
