Introduction

The expansion of the University College of London estate across the capital further establishes the educational institution as one of London’s leading universities. Momentum are proud to have supported the development of the masterplan for the new UCL East campus, situated within the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. The site will provide approximately 125,000m² of space comprised of innovative teaching and learning space, high-tech engineering laboratories, exhibition and museum space, retail units and student accommodation.

The campus will be situated in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Momentum devised a comprehensive transport and access strategy for the masterplan which provides a high-quality people focused environment that enhances the connectivity throughout the park, creates intuitive wayfinding routes and mitigates any potential impacts associated with the operation of the nearby London Stadium.

Momentum worked closely with the design team to develop a progressive ‘shared space’ design which prioritises pedestrians and park users, ensuring the safety and operation of the campus is maintained. The ‘shared space’ utilises landscaping and street furniture to demarcate a servicing route for vehicles that integrates into the surrounding park, as opposed to a traditional highway.
