The awards, in their 13th year, aim to uncover female role models, identify male agents of change and transform industry perception.
Amélie, co-founder and director of Momentum Transport Canada, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘international inspiration’ award – a new award for 2020 which will be presented to a woman working outside of the UK and Ireland that is a role model for women in her community.
David has been shortlisted in the ‘male agent of change’ category, which is awarded to a man for his active commitment to advancing the progress of women working in transport and logistics.
Roy McGowan, director at Momentum said: “We’re really proud of Amélie and David for their achievement of being named as finalists in this year’s everywoman awards. Over the past two years Amélie has single-handedly founded Momentum’s North American business and set it on a steep and successful growth curve. This is remarkable, but that Amelie has achieved this from a standing start, in a new country, and initially with no staff or external network is both exceptional and inspirational.
“David continues to direct Momentum’s HR function, and has worked closely with our HR team to improve opportunities for women. Women make up 47% of the UK workforce and we’re proud that women make up 43% of our Momentum team (versus a transport sector average of 20%). In our 2019 graduate intake, six of the seven graduates were female engineers, transport planners and modellers. David is also an active member of the Women in Transport network, of which Momentum is proud to be a corporate member. He has been a mentor on Women in Transport’s Advance Mentoring Programme since its inception two years ago and I know feels it is a huge privilege to be involved.
“Amélie and David are shortlisted amongst illustrious transport and logistics professionals – congratulations and good luck to all of the finalists!”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in central London on 6 October 2020 (subject to government guidelines).

The unique summit – ahead of Car Free Day on 22 September – will bring together civic leaders, property developers, financiers, community organisers, architects and transport planners from around the world to debate a vision for the future of traffic-free city centres and more economically, socially, and environmentally productive use of valuable urban land.
Roy McGowan, managing director at Momentum said: “Momentum is a people-first transport consultancy and the work we do with our clients focuses on designing urban spaces and transport solutions which are safe and enjoyable for pedestrians and cyclists; efficient for all users; and which make the best use of the space and infrastructure we have available to us. Decreasing our dependency on cars and vehicles is a big step towards achieving this, whilst also moving us towards London’s ‘Vision Zero’ and ‘Road to Zero’ ambitions which aim to reduce pollution from emissions, and injuries and deaths through collisions with motor vehicles. These environmental and safety improvements will also encourage more active travel by walking, cycling and running which will help to achieve a wider set of city and personal benefits.
“We’re proud to be co-sponsoring the inaugural Car Free Day London Summit and sharing our insight – gained through our experiences of working with clients around the world – on how cities and urban developments can achieve more efficient land use and mobility by considering alternative options to the car.”

We think she is an inspiration for other young women embarking on a transport planning career.

Will Durden, director at Momentum said: “Many people will be surprised to hear a group of engineers and transport planners talk about the work they do as ‘design’. But design, and specifically urban design, is an integral and essential part of everything we do at Momentum. Urban design focuses on the physical features of the places where people live and work. Where architects focus on individual buildings, urban designers plan for the municipal services, streets and public spaces in between them. Put simply it is about connecting people and spaces.
“We’re proud to be Fringe Partners of Clerkenwell Design Week this year. Clerkenwell is home to our London office, and to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else in the world, making it truly one of the most important design hubs.”
Clerkenwell Design Week takes place from 21-23 May 2019.

The Charter for Employers who are Positive about Mental Health is a voluntary agreement seeking to support employers in working within the spirit of its positive approach. The Charter is one element of the MINDFUL EMPLOYER® initiative which is aimed at increasing awareness of mental health in the workplace and supporting businesses in recruiting and retaining staff.
A wide range of employers from all over the UK are involved in the initiative which gives businesses and organisations easier access to information, practical support, training, networks and assistance from other employers.
Roy McGowan, Managing Director at Momentum said: “We try to take a positive and proactive approach to the wellbeing and mental health of our whole team, with initiatives including our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and training two of our staff as Mental Health First Aiders – enabling them to have a confidential conversation with anyone in the team who feels like they are struggling with their mental health. In the past year we’ve also really appreciated the support of Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust whose clinical psychologists have visited our offices to lead two training sessions for our staff on pressure and resilience, and perfectionism as part of their C&I Wellbeing outreach programme.
““Looking ahead we will be adopting and adapting the Mindful Employer Charter’s principles. The Charter also gives us access to a wealth of useful information about mental health and how to handle situations that may arise at work, which we believe is really important in empowering our staff who have supervisory responsibilities to spot potential issues and help others who may need some support.”
