Project context
One Leadenhall is a 36-storey tower providing more than 500,000sqft of prime working environment in the heart of the financial centre of London and 50,000sqft of shops and cafes on a podium in the first floors of the tower. Momentum worked on behalf of Brookfield, alongside architects Make to support the scheme through to successful planning application and into development.
Our work
With a site located adjacent to some of the busiest streets in London, Momentum undertook pedestrian studies to analyse the current and future pedestrian demand in the area and inform on efficient footway widths in line with both City of London and Transport for London requirements.
Within the development, Momentum advised on the entry process for the lobby, starting from internal circulation principles through to design testing of revolving doors, turnstiles and lifts using pedestrian modelling tools.
Given the very significant levels of development in the immediate surroundings of the site, construction logistics was a significant challenge. We developed the detailed design for a ‘temporary’ highway scheme, and a suite of construction logistics plans.
Client outcomes
A junction improvement scheme to accommodate the future demand generated by committed developments in the Eastern Cluster, balancing the demands of motorised traffic, cyclists and pedestrians was developed.
Within the development, our client received visualisations to show that capacity would meet the expected levels of demand, through the use of heat maps illustrating the anticipated density of pedestrian movement in the lift lobbies and out to the street.
Construction was able to proceed whilst minimising the impacts on pedestrians, the adjacent Leadenhall Market, and neighbouring construction sites.
