Introduction

As part of an integrated urban design team, Momentum Transport Consultancy was appointed by Brady Shipman Martin on behalf of Kildare County Council (KCC) to undertake a series of health checks / urban design analysis for six rural settlements across County Kildare, Ireland. These settlements currently experience a lack of pedestrian and cycle priority, partially due to the lack of onward connectivity and appropriate infrastructure. The health checks provided a baseline analysis to inform the development of urban renewal plans for each town and village.

To strengthen the assessment of the six settlements and support urban renewal proposals, Momentum prepared a traffic survey analysis report for the settlements. The report provided an analysis of vehicle, cycle and pedestrian surveys which were undertaken in December 2020. Our analysis included mapping the data to easily visualise and communicate the traffic flows and key pedestrian safety concerns. It will support the identification of key areas requiring improvements for pedestrians and cyclists. Finally, Momentum recommended mitigatory measures to improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists in the local area.
