Momentum is a key part of the 5th Studio-led design team commissioned by LLDC to create an Urban Design Framework for the future of Stratford Station and its surroundings. The framework aims to resolve the existing issues in the area, for example the severance between ‘old’ and ‘new’ Stratford created by the rail lines and major highways. It also aims to provide a long-term design solution for Stratford Station to accommodate the growing demand for rail services and enable further development growth.

We have used a variety of modelling tools to enable us to assess station designs in various degrees of detail. A new station modelling software, MLSAT, has allowed us to model early station design options at a faster rate and with greater accuracy than traditional static models. We have then used the more detailed Legion software to assess the final proposed ‘significant’ station option scheme to understand how the proposed station layout would perform in the 2031 and 2041 PM peak scenarios. Momentum supported TfL with the development of the assumptions, Legion modelling and extraction of outputs which were used to monetise the journey time benefits for each of the station schemes to be used in the outline business case.

To unlock additional developable area, we have reviewed the existing bus operations and prepared several options with varying levels of intervention that create efficiencies of space to enable the necessary structural supports for an over station development (OSD). This includes provision for the servicing needs of the OSD, while also meeting the bus stop, stand and associated infrastructure requirements for the bus station. We have led multiple consultation meetings with TfL buses to present the scheme options and discuss amendments and improvements.
