Canada Day
Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals

Project context
Momentum was commissioned by OC Transpo to develop the Integrated Crowd Management Plan for transit stations serving Canada Day 2025 festivities in Ottawa. The work aligned with the broader site-wide plan, focusing on passenger flows and queue management at major O-Train and bus stations, including Pimisi, Lyon, Bayview, and Parliament.
Our work
Momentum conducted static and dynamic analyses to optimize crowd and transit management. Static analysis determined passenger distribution and additional bus needs, while dynamic analysis using Legion modelling predicted crowd behaviour. The team also developed queue management plans and attended the event to evaluate real-world operations and validate planning assumptions.
Client outcomes
OC Transpo benefited from optimized transit operations, reduced queue times, and enhanced passenger safety. Improved efficiency and reliability encouraged greater public-transit use, supporting sustainability goals by reducing car dependency and emissions. The project also established a repeatable framework for managing large-scale events across Ottawa’s transit network.
