Momentum Transport Consultancy welcomes Spatial Design Hub as new sister company to strengthen geospatial capability
Momentum Transport Consultancy has today announced that Spatial Design Hub, a geospatial consultancy, will become its second sister company – strengthening its offer to clients in the built environment, regeneration and development sectors.
The acquisition will bring together Momentum’s transport planning, analytics and modelling, and highways engineering expertise with Spatial Design Hub’s capabilities in spatial data, and GIS consultancy and technology, to create a more integrated approach to shaping transport, development and regeneration projects.
Spatial Design Hub will continue to operate as an independent business line, led by its founder and director James O’Brien, and from April 2026 will be based at Momentum’s London head office in Farringdon.
Working closely the two companies will continue to support developers, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams in responding to increasingly complex planning and placemaking challenges, particularly at the early stages of large-scale development and urban regeneration.
David Hart, managing director at Momentum said: “Masterplanning and regeneration projects demand a deep understanding of how movement, place and design interact. Spatial Design Hub’s expertise in spatial analysis perfectly complements our transport planning strengths. Together, we can provide clearer, earlier insight to our clients to help them create more successful and sustainable places.
“We’ve worked closely with Spatial Design Hub since Momentum was founded in 2012. During that time James (O’Brien) and his team have built a reputation for supporting venue and network operators, design teams and planning authorities with spatial modelling, GIS consultancy and technology, and place-based analysis that inform strategic planning and masterplanning decisions. Today’s acquisition underlines both our commitment to providing best-in-class consultancy services that help shape the future of our built environment, and our belief that bringing Momentum and Spatial Design Hub closer will further accelerate growth for both companies.”

James O’Brien, director at Spatial Design Hub, said: “Joining the Momentum family marks an exciting next chapter for Spatial Design Hub, enabling us to continue our growth as a leading geospatial consultancy for the built environment. What makes this partnership particularly strong is our shared belief in the importance of data-led design from the very outset of a project. We’re genuinely excited about the opportunities this alignment creates and the value it will unlock for our clients.”

Spatial Design Hub becoming a Momentum sister company reflects Momentum’s continued growth and its ambition to play a larger role in shaping strategies behind major global development and regeneration schemes. It comes 12 months after the launch of Momentum’s first sister company, structural engineering company Eidos. The combined team will continue to support projects around the world, working with developers, local authorities, planners, venue operators, contractors, architects and urban designers on strategic growth locations, urban transport and complex regeneration schemes in constrained environments.
