Momentum, Eidos and Spatial Design Hub Back NLA’s ‘One Built Environment’ Declaration

Momentum, Eidos and Spatial Design Hub have thrown their collective weight behind the NLA’s ‘One Built Environment’ campaign, joining more than 500 developers, contractors, investors, local authorities and professional bodies calling on Government to recognise the built environment as a single, unified industry.

The campaign launched to strong industry response at this year’s London Real Estate Forum. NLA’s research, produced in partnership with the GLA and LSE, shows the built environment – spanning housing, planning, transport, infrastructure, energy and regeneration – contributes 25% of UK Gross Value Added (GVA) (£568bn), supports one in eight UK jobs, and generates £168bn in exports. Despite this scale, Government policy continues to treat these sectors as disconnected parts rather than a single, strategic industry.

The Declaration makes three clear asks of Government:

  1. Recognise the built environment as one industry, using NLA’s methodology.
  2. Name it a strategic growth sector within the 10-year plan.
  3. Build a long-term Industrial and Investment Strategy in partnership with industry leaders.
