Momentum Transport Consultancy has today announced that Spatial Design Hub, a geospatial consultancy, will become its second sister company – strengthening its offer to clients in the built environment, regeneration and development sectors.
The acquisition will bring together Momentum’s transport planning, analytics and modelling, and highways engineering expertise with Spatial Design Hub’s capabilities in spatial data, and GIS consultancy and technology, to create a more integrated approach to shaping transport, development and regeneration projects.
Spatial Design Hub will continue to operate as an independent business line, led by its founder and director James O’Brien, and from April 2026 will be based at Momentum’s London head office in Farringdon.
Working closely the two companies will continue to support developers, local authorities and multidisciplinary design teams in responding to increasingly complex planning and placemaking challenges, particularly at the early stages of large-scale development and urban regeneration.
David Hart, managing director at Momentum said: “Masterplanning and regeneration projects demand a deep understanding of how movement, place and design interact. Spatial Design Hub’s expertise in spatial analysis perfectly complements our transport planning strengths. Together, we can provide clearer, earlier insight to our clients to help them create more successful and sustainable places.
“We’ve worked closely with Spatial Design Hub since Momentum was founded in 2012. During that time James (O’Brien) and his team have built a reputation for supporting venue and network operators, design teams and planning authorities with spatial modelling, GIS consultancy and technology, and place-based analysis that inform strategic planning and masterplanning decisions. Today’s acquisition underlines both our commitment to providing best-in-class consultancy services that help shape the future of our built environment, and our belief that bringing Momentum and Spatial Design Hub closer will further accelerate growth for both companies.”

James O’Brien, director at Spatial Design Hub, said: “Joining the Momentum family marks an exciting next chapter for Spatial Design Hub, enabling us to continue our growth as a leading geospatial consultancy for the built environment. What makes this partnership particularly strong is our shared belief in the importance of data-led design from the very outset of a project. We’re genuinely excited about the opportunities this alignment creates and the value it will unlock for our clients.”

Spatial Design Hub becoming a Momentum sister company reflects Momentum’s continued growth and its ambition to play a larger role in shaping strategies behind major global development and regeneration schemes. It comes 12 months after the launch of Momentum’s first sister company, structural engineering company Eidos. The combined team will continue to support projects around the world, working with developers, local authorities, planners, venue operators, contractors, architects and urban designers on strategic growth locations, urban transport and complex regeneration schemes in constrained environments.

We’re pleased to see planning approval secured for 10 Leake Street – HB Reavis’s significant redevelopment in the heart of Waterloo, London.
Momentum Transport Consultancy supported the scheme with a near 100% cargo bike delivery and servicing strategy, helping ensure that this purpose-built student accommodation development can operate with dramatically reduced reliance on traditional van movements.
For a highly-constrained central London site, that meant:
🚲 Designing a cargo bike-first servicing approach from day one
📦 Planning for efficient last-mile deliveries with minimal vehicle trips
🔄 Coordinating building management and operational requirements
🏢 Integrating a mix of efficient cycle parking and pooling options in the fabric of the building
By embedding urban logistics thinking early in the design process, the development is set up to minimise congestion, reduce emissions and support Lambeth’s wider sustainability ambitions.
With strong backing from the LSE and designed by PLP Architecture, this scheme shows how high-quality student accommodation and low-carbon servicing strategies can go hand in hand.
As more central London developments look to cut vehicle movements and improve air quality, cargo bike-led logistics will play an increasingly important role.
Thanks to PedalMe for collaborating to develop a robust cargo bike strategy.
If you’re exploring how to make near-zero emission servicing a practical reality, we’d be happy to share our experience.
Every year, our team votes for a charity to support – a cause that reflects our shared values and desire to make a positive impact.
We’re proud to announce that our nominated charity for this year is Young Roots, an incredible organisation supporting young refugees and asylum seekers to realise their potential through one-to-one support, youth activities and access to vital services.
We also want to say a heartfelt thank you to Little Village, our charity partner over the past couple of years, whose work supporting families with young children across London has inspired us all.
We’re looking forward to working with Young Roots this year – and continuing to put people at the heart of everything we do.

All profit generated is reinvested into the game to support its growth at all levels, through community programmes and investment into player development, professional clubs, community clubs, and the England national teams.
Like all businesses, they face financial pressures from economic challenges, rising costs, and the lasting impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these challenges lie in how they maximise and invest in their biggest asset, Allianz Stadium, which generates around 85% of their revenues.
The Stadium Masterplan Project has been established to support the RFU to develop a vision and multi-year plan for the future that looks at how the stadium can maintain its reputation as a world-class entertainment venue for sports and concerts, and in turn generate more income, all while becoming an asset that local communities can be proud of.

Momentum Transport Consultancy has today revealed the results of its annual sustainability impact assessment, with a total of 7,937,039 potential net kilograms of CO2e saved yearly from transport modal shift and deliveries consolidation. This number has increased from last year’s figure of 340,207 potential net kilograms of CO2e, which also reflects the greater scale and number of schemes assessed this year.
The annual sustainability impact assessment highlights the environmental benefits achieved from each project that the company has worked on, that achieved planning consent during the previous year. The assessment captures Momentum’s contribution to the sustainability of the scheme, looking at potential transport carbon emissions savings, infrastructure and public realm provision and delivery consolidation strategies.
Potential CO2 savings are calculated by taking the proposed (and consented) mode share, and any delivery consolidation strategies, and comparing them to an industry standard baseline for the given land use type. Elements such as the number of trees planted, number of cycle parking spaces, public realm improvements, active travel proposals and EV charging spaces are also summarised.
In 2023/24 seven major schemes were considered in Momentum’s assessment:
- 75 London Wall (City of London)
- Portland House (City of Westminster)
- Weybridge Innovation Facility (Surrey County Council)
- 21 Lombard Street (City of London)
- 55 Old Broad Street (City of London)
- Shepherd’s Bush Market (London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham)
- Harbour Exchange (London Borough of Tower Hamlets)
These schemes, which have all received planning permission, contributed to a total potential daily saving of 85,161kg of CO2e.
Kana Nomoto, senior consultant at Momentum who leads the annual sustainability analysis and summary, said: “This is the third year that we’ve used our bespoke assessment tool to enable us to quantify the theoretical CO2e savings that we expect to see coming through when the developments we have worked on are on the ground.
“Since our first assessment in 2022 we’ve been really encouraged to see the potential carbon emissions savings grow. And while it’s difficult to make a straight year-on-year comparison, due to the number and size of individual schemes looked at in our assessment each year, the final savings figure reflects both the scale and number of projects that have been consented.
“In particular this year we’ve seen continued potential to achieve carbon savings through modal shift. We’ve noted an ongoing move towards improved infrastructure for active travel, as well as the use of cargo bike deliveries in proposed delivery and servicing strategies. Additionally, two of the projects assessed had significant additional public realm proposed as part of their planning applications. These two projects alone will generate nearly 3000 sqm of new public realm space, with nearly two thirds of that space in the City of London.”
Will Durden, managing director at Momentum said: “We’ve always been passionate at Momentum about making an impact on the sustainability of our cities and urban spaces. Seeing the potential net CO2e savings number grow each year makes us incredibly proud to have worked on some of London’s – and beyond’s – biggest development projects, and to be making life better for the people who live and work there.”
