St.Ann’s Hospital
Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals
Momentum was delighted to be commissioned by the Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust to develop a transport strategy for their new state-of-the-art acute mental health inpatient building and community facilities at St Ann’s Hospital. Our work included consultation with staff, patients, and a public survey to increase the site’s permeability developing an access and better connectivity strategy within, through and to the site, including the enhancement of public transport connections. We also analysed the logistics requirements of the campus including community health services, on-site residential care needs and facilities for young patients, to develop a new servicing strategy.
As part of our work, we undertook consultation with a number of departments in order to develop an understanding of the requirements of their patients, visitors and staff, and how these would impact on their needs for access. Momentum’s access strategy for the development focused on providing an appropriate and integrated access, as well as facilitating the required infrasturcture to travel by sustainable modes. New pedestrian and cycle connections were created, opening up the previously enclosed site to the wider community and increasing access to public transport options.
Momentum was also responsible of the study and analysis of the logistics requirements of the whole campus including community health services, on-site residential care needs and services for young people so that this could all be planned with the future needs of all users in mind.
By improving the connectivity of the St Ann’s site by opening up walking routes, we improved access to more bus services and stations, without the need for further investment in public transport. Increasing pedestrian permeability allowed the preference and access to means of transport with a low impact on the environment, including walking, cycling, public transport.
