We worked for the developer Brookfield plc to design a parklet to replace a motorcycle parking bay outside their offices on Finsbury Square.
The aim of the proposal was to provide a more attractive arrival experience to the building and encourage walking on Finsbury Square, and between the south side of the square and the central gardens. We undertook research into Islington’s policies, design guidance and best practice to develop a design guide for the client to choose various elements for the parklet. We then produced a visualisation for the parklet based on their choices. We also undertook occupancy surveys of the motorcycle bay and surrounding motorcycle bays to understand how much usage would need to be relocated and where capacity was available.
The survey demonstrated that there was sufficient capacity for the motorcycle parking outside City Gate House to be relocated to surrounding bays. The results of the survey and visualisation were presented to Islington officers.
