Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals
Following a successful research project in London, Momentum was commissioned by Dott to provide a report exploring opportunities and challenges of operating rental e-scooters in Dublin. Following the introduction of e-scooters in different parts of Europe, it is important to recognise contextual differences between cities, particularly in the case of Dublin as a historic and growing city. The successful implementation of shared e-scooter schemes would be dependent on establishing an operational strategy that is cognisant of the unique context in Dublin, with its varying population density, transport accessibility, demographics and car ownership rates.
The report investigated the impact of e-scooters on accessibility in Dublin and the likely trip types they would facilitate. The results highlighted a great opportunity for e-scooters to ‘plug’ existing gaps in the public transport network which could have been contributing to the high private modal share. Site suitability analysis was undertaken for parking locations in the Inner and Outer Dublin areas and the policy alignment was discussed in detail. The report concluded with recommendations to encourage successful implementation of shared e-scooters schemes in Dublin City. This comprehensive report has subsequently been used in Dott’s marketing campaigns and has been featured in The Irish Times.
