Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals

Momentum was commissioned by the London Borough of Camden to work with Camden Council and local businesses to develop a freight and servicing action plan for Gray’s Inn Road. The key aims of the plan are to facilitate a reduction in overall freight and servicing trips to businesses, promote the use of cleaner, more environmentally-friendly delivery practices such as cargo bikes, and explore a series of innovative freight and servicing solutions that are suitable for the businesses along Gray’s Inn Road.

Momentum led the engagement process through the preparation of various engagement documents (questionnaire, flyers) and conducting a door-knocking exercise to ensure that all businesses were made aware of the consultation. The information and responses gathered were summarised and reported back to the client. This allowed the client to benefit from a better understanding of the challenges faced by local businesses regarding their servicing and loading activities.

The project also enabled the client to identify the opportunities and limitations for businesses on Gray’s Inn Road, as well as key learnings for future engagement and development of action plans in other neighbourhoods around the borough. These learnings included the need for clear communication channels, targeted engagement methods and the importance of identifying key local stakeholders prior to engagement. This action plan is the first of many to be developed by Camden and will act as a key starting point for future plans.

In addition to the final freight and servicing action plan made available for all businesses, Momentum provided a document setting out sustainable delivery options and existing case studies which can be used by other businesses in future and contribute towards Camden’s broader transport policy objectives.
