The Colbert Quarter is located in Limerick, Ireland’s third biggest city, and its 69ha are owned and operated by a range of public organisations including HSE, CIE and Limerick City and County council.

Working in collaboration with Hawkins Brown architects we were commissioned by the Land Development Agency to develop the transport inputs to an Infrastructure Delivery and Phasing Plan, as well as inputs for a masterplan to the northeast of the site.

We undertook an extensive collection of baseline conditions, including innovative Healthy Streets audits, public transport infrastructure audits and surveys to identify the current infrastructure deficits.

Combined with a complex trip generation and network distribution of the expected 43,000 future daily trips, we were able to map what type and where key transport investments were required, providing an evidence base for future funding applications.

For the masterplan, we worked collaboratively with the design team to support important early design decisions including the tie in of the Limerick link, a primary active travel site, with the existing highway network. Using Irish highway guidance such as DMURS and the Traffic sign manual, we also supported the design of different highway and junction typologies to create a new ‘car as guest’ vibrant neighbourhood.
